The importance of your bed cannot be overestimated, a third of your life is spent in one.
Sleep is so important to your overall health and well-being; a good night’s sleep will:
Reduce stress – Repair the body – Help you lose weight
Lessen the effects of aging – Reduce the risk of depression
Make you more alert – Lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes
Reduce inflammation and Bolster your memory.
It is recommended to relax at least an hour before bed with no Internet, television or facebook!
People live very busy lives these days and often don’t take time to stop, take stock of the day and properly wind-down before bed.
Don’t watch that next episode on Netflix, remove mobile phones and tablets from the bedroom, the lights from mobile devices can affect circadian rhythms and tell your body not to sleep.
Give your body the chance and signals to relax, make your bedroom your peaceful sanctuary, a place where you can unwind, make the room pleasing on the eye, decorate and furnish using your favourite fabrics and colours, make it a place you look forward to retiring to at the end of the day.
It is important to have a good quality mattress, you should change your mattress every 7/8 years. Buy the biggest size bed you can afford if you share, as partner disturbance is one of the biggest complaints. When buying a new bed, lie down on it in your usual sleep position to make sure it is comfortable for you. Please appreciate the importance of a good night’s sleep, you are investing in your health and well-being!
